The Benefits of Pilates
Pilates is for everybody and every body! The Pilates Method as an exercise system can improve movement function, posture, strength, stability, and mobility -and of course core connection and strength. However, one of the most transformative aspects of the Pilates Method is its ability to bring about balance to those who practice it. Not just the kind of balance that we feel when we stand on one leg or hike down a mountainside, but a deeper and more fundamental sense of balance that comes from the deliberate practice of centering our mind and body through breath and movement.
Continual practice leads to lasting change, and the positive effects that we cultivate in the studio reach far beyond our Pilates sessions and into every corner of our lives. Centeredness, Concentration, Control, Precision, Breath, and Flow. As we practice, the very foundation of the Pilates Method simply becomes part of who we are.
Starting Out
You are unique and so should your Pilates journey be. This is why we ask all new clients who begin their journey with us to start with an Initial Consultation whether they are joining our Studio or Clinical Pilates sessions or our Group Reformer & Tower classes. Our overarching goal is to create lasting positive change for you, and we do this by knowing you. When you practice with us, you can rest assured that we factor in your specific goals and past or current injuries and conditions. The Initial Assessment helps us learn more about you and how you move, and it allows us to bring our entire skillset and experience along as we support you in moving and feeling the best that you can.
We do occasionally make exceptions to our IC requirement, specifically for clients with previous Pilates experience who wish to join our Group Reformer & Tower Classes. If this is you, then please get touch with us to discuss your interests and experience.
Our Studio Session and Group Class Offerings
We offer traditional Studio Pilates and Group Classes for all bodies, at all levels. Individualised guidance and personalised attention are a core part of how we teach, no matter if you attend a studio session or group class. However, the level of individualisation, attention, and guidance you will receive depends on the size and type of session you join.
Our small group (1:5) Reformer & Tower Group classes include Matwork, Reformer, and Tower repertoire and all clients in the group follow the same program. However, our instructor knows each client’s specific needs and will provide individual modifications and variations to the programmed repertoire as they see fit.
Our Studio and Clinical Pilates Sessions range from privates (1:1), Duets (1:2), to Semi-Privates (1:4). Each client works on a program tailored to their body. The apparatus (equipment), Pilates repertoire (exercises), and clinically specific exercises included in each session will reflect the needs and goals of the individual client. Our Studio Sessions offer the highest level of individualisation, attention, guidance, and privacy suiting clinical clients, those who wish to work in smaller groups with more attention, and those who wish to dive deeper into the Pilates Method, or refine their sports performance.
You are not limited to doing either studio sessions or group classes, a combination can be a great option to grow your confidence and increase your practice in the Pilates Method.

About Pilates Lab Phillip Island
Welcome to our beautiful studio in the heart of Cowes!
Pilates Lab PI is a contemporary Pilates studio located in Cowes Centre on Phillip Island. The studio was founded and is operated by Maja Lund Loekkegaard. Trained at Australia’s peak Pilates institute, National Pilates Training, and a passionate member of Pilates Association Australia, Maja has nearly a decade of experience teaching a diverse clientele across Allied Health and rehabilitation studios in Melbourne. As a former athlete and academic, Maja has an obsessive interest in anatomy and biomechanics, and a passionate belief in the Pilates Method as a uniquely powerful approach to building and maintaining healthy movement mechanics through all stages of life. Besides her dedication to the Pilates Method, Maja has spent the better part of her life practicing and training in mindfulness meditation, somatic movement practices, movement analysis, dance, and manual therapy. The breadth of her experience and knowledge can be felt and traced in the way she understands, applies, and teaches the Pilates Method, bringing a truly wholesome, transformative, and nourishing approach to both the offerings and general atmosphere of the Pilates Lab PI studio.
We offer Contemporary Pilates
We firmly believe in the importance of incorporating current research and validated best practices from the medical and Allied Fields into the Pilates Method and our studio. At Pilates Lab Phillip Island we therefore offer contemporary Pilates as it accommodates a broad range of modifications and variations to Joseph Pilate’s original repertoire whilst remaining deeply rooted in the fundamental principles and original repertoire of the Pilates method. This allows us to accommodate a diverse body of clients, including pre- and postnatal clients, athletes, the elderly and young, clinical clients, and those with otherwise physical and psychological limitations. Our unique and specialised group sessions, and our custom-made clinical Pilates apparatus, furthermore provide affordable access to our skillset, bringing joy and well-being to our island community through our shared journey into the Pilates Method.
